Our Chinese courses in Chengde offer a genuine “off the tourist trail” cultural experience in a beautiful and typical Chinese city.

Chengde is situated in the Hebei Province, 2 hours and 45 minutes north east of Beijing and has a population of 3.5 million.
This charming city is also known as the Mountain Resort, a beautiful imperial palace with large gardens built in the 18th century by the Kangxi Emperor. The resort was used as a summer residence by the emperors of the Qing Dynasty to relax and escape from the hot summers in Beijing. The resort, considered the largest royal garden in China, became an important political centre of the Chinese empire during these times.
The Mountain Resort of Chengde and its surrounding temples have been UNESCO World Heritage Site protected since 1994.
Accessible by foot or bike, visitors can walk from one end of the city to the other end in just an hour.
